Leica GS05 - How to configure an eSIM
In LTE-enabled Leica GS05 units, internet connectivity is provided via an embedded SIM (eSIM) rather than a traditional removable SIM card. The eSIM is a software-defined module programmed onto a dedicated chip that is permanently integrated into the GS05’s internal hardware. The following are steps to get information for which the service provider will need in order to set up the GS05 on a network.
Step 1: Ensure the GS05 is connected to the Internet.
- To connect the Leica GS05 to a WLAN network:
- Navigate to Settings > Connections > All Other Connections.
- Go to the GS Connections tab > Highlight GS WLAN and tap Edit.
- Check the Connect GS WLAN checkbox, then tap Search.
- From the list of available networks, select your WLAN.
Enter the network password when prompted (as you would when connecting a smartphone)
Step 2: Create a GS modem profile on the GS05
- Navigate to Settings > Connections > All Other Connections.
- Go to the GS Connections tab > Highlight GS internet and tap Edit
- Check the Use Internet Connection on GS box, ensure the proper Device is selected (Cinterion EXS62) > Press OK.
Step 3: Gathering the proper information for the eSim Service Providers.
Once a GS Modem profile is created, the following information will be available in About Leica Captivate under the GS Sensor tab:
GS Modem IMEI : eg. 35400620649635
euiccid (eSIM EID) : eg 89033023426300000000036916010762
The following details—GS modem IMEI and euiccid (eSIM EID)—are typically required by the eSIM service provider for setting up a eSIM activation.
Note: Upon receiving the necessary information from the service provider, the activation process may take between 15 minutes and 3 hours to complete.
Step 4: Configuring the eSIM profile
- Navigate to Settings > Connections > All Other Connections.
- Go to the GS Connections tab > Highlight GS internet and tap Control
- In the eSIM tab, tap New
After contacting your eSIM network service provider you will receive the proper information which includes:
- SM-DP+ address
- activation code
- confirmation code for your eSIM.
Note: Depending on the eSIM service provider, the activation details may be provided in the form of a QR code. However, this information must be entered manually in Leica Captivate. Please request the required configuration details in email format from the provider. Alternatively, A QR scanner app from the App Store or Play Store can be used to decode their QR code if needed.
Activation times may vary by service provider and can take anywhere from 5 minutes to up to 3 hours.
Also, some eSIM service providers supply the SM-DP+ Address and the Activation code together in one "string" of information. As an example, if you see something like this below:
EID: 89033023426300000000036916010762, eSIM: 89302610207736018075, has ConfirmOrder status: Success, with error code: 0, reason code: 0. Activation Code: 1$bmc.prod.ondemandconnectivity.com$4K3P9UX3DP4WV00O. |
Then the SM-DP+ Address is the part between the two $ signs And the Activation code is the part after the second $ sign and the Activation code is the part after the second $sign
Once the profile is created, ensure to enable the profile
Step 5: Configure the APN
Navigate to Settings > Connections > All Other Connections.
Go to the GS Connections tab > Highlight GS internet and tap Control
The following are some commonly used APNs for the local service providers:
Bell: | inet.bell.ca, pda.bell.ca |
Telus: | isp.telus.com |
Rogers: | ltemobile.apn |
Freedom: | mms.freedomobile.ca |
Upon successful activation with the eSIM service provider and entering all the appropriate information correctly, the GS05 will be able to connect to Internet via's LTE modem.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
When using the LTE model of GS05, ensure to have the LTE Antenna (Leica GAT36) inserted into the GS05 antenna slot.
